New dates for 2007

After much discussion, we have elected to change the munch schedule to the second Thursday of every month (at the Outlook as before). So the first munch of 2007 will be 11th Jan (followed by 8th Feb and then 8th March). Although we appreciate this may not suit everyone, we hope the regular day-of-week slot will make it easier for most folk to plan their diaries. Have a great fetish/festive Christmas and see you in the New Year!

The Yahoo! Group is up and running!

I'm pleased to announce that the munch now has its very own Yahoo! Group where members can post, exchange ideas, and get to know each other a little better in between our regular munches. You will need to set up a Yahoo! ID to join but this is free and easy.

Please note: we will decline any requests to join where the Yahoo! profile is blank - we need you to include some credible information in order to maintain our "adult" status (what you include is up to you of course - no one is going to check it's accurate).

New faces and first-timers

Good to see some new faces at the September munch (as well as some regulars too of course). New folk are always welcome and first-timers especially. So, if you're looking to pluck up courage and dip your toes in, do drop us an email here in advance - we can answer any questions you may have to put your mind at rest and be sure to look out for you on the day...

Monday 4 September 2006

September Munch

Come and join us for the next Munch on Saturday 16th from 3-6pm - a little earlier than last month so all you club/party goers can still make it to your favourite den of iniquity for the evening. See you there...

Saturday 12 August 2006

Coming Soon...

We will soon be launching our very own Yahoo! group - watch this space for more details. Alternatively, send us your email address to add to our mailing list and be one of the first to be invited to join.

August Munch - Date/Time Change

The August munch will be Saturday 19th, 5-8pm. So why not come along and rest those weary shopping feet before heading out for the evening...? Venue back to normal this month.

Revolving Doors!

Sadly, it's time to bid farewell to Mel from the munch team as she has moved out of the area (but I'm sure she'll pop over to see us every once in a while).

However, I'm pleased to announce that one of our newest members, Joss, is taking up the reins (pony play puns not intended). So prepare to be cajoled into coming along to future munches - she can be very persuasive...!

Monday 24 July 2006

Small, but perfectly formed...

...is how I would describe the July munch. Lots of new faces (which was good to see) along with a few familiar ones. Still, it was a beautiful afternoon so maybe the sunshine lured folk elsewhere. Special thanks to our friends from Kent who dropped by on their way home. The temporary Sunday venue did its job admirably but we will be returning to our usual haunt next month. Talking of which, there is some debate as to the date of the next get together so watch this space or get on the mailing list for updates.

Sunday 2 July 2006

July Venue

As our regular pub will be closed for the July munch (it being on a Sunday afternoon this time around), the venue will be changed temporarily. The new location will be notified to people on the mailing list so, if you've not already done so, send us an email so we can keep you posted.

Please pass on this message to anyone you know who might be thinking to come along...

Sunday 18 June 2006

Bloomin' June

The June munch was very agreeable with a nice mix of first-timers and old-timers (age references not intended!). The pub was much quieter than usual, especially for a Friday night - must have been something to do with the lovely sunny evening and/or that folk had over-indulged at the previous night's England match.

As the next munch falls on a Sunday the venue will be changed as the pub is not open. Some of you may remember the last time this happened - unexpectedly!

So please keep an eye on this site - the new venue will be posted as soon as it is confirmed. Please note though, this will be an afternoon munch from 2pm to 5pm rather than the usual evening get together. If you've not already done so, please drop us an email (see our new anti-spam Contact Us posting) so we can add you to the mailing list and keep you informed as to the location.

Regards,
Mel & Rob

The munch is alive and well

Good to see some old and some new faces at the May munch. We occupied our usual corner just inside the main door of the pub. As both Mel and I were there, the mascot cats (Bagpuss & Scorchy) were in attendance. Though you wouldn't guess from the pictures here on the site, Bagpuss is tiny so keep your eyes peeled if looking for him at a future get together. We did have one enquiry from a couple of inquisitive girls as to the reason for the cat and they didn't seem entirely satisfied by the "it's our mascot" answer so if anyone can come up with some good "vanilla" excuses please post your comments here.

The next munch will revert to its usual 16th of the month slot for June which is a Friday this time (good for some, not for others - but that's the idea). I checked and England are not playing that night so there's no excuses there...

If any newcomers would like a "meet and greet" then please send an email to us at the above address in advance and we will look out for you.

See you soon,
Mel & Rob

Sunday 7 May 2006

Welcome from Mel and Rob

Hi everyone! We are delighted to be taking over the Reading munch now that kitty is leaving us for a while - we send her our very best wishes.

Our aim is to stick with the 16th of every month (just as before) unless circumstances dictate otherwise. Please do check the website before coming along in case of any last minute alterations. Just to be difficult, we have settled on the 23rd May for the next meet and we hope to see as many of you there as possible...

Kind regards,
Mel & Rob

Directions & Parking

We meet on the second Wednesday of the month in The Purple Turtle, 9 Gun St, Reading, Berkshire RG1 2JR.

Parking is available at the Oracle, but let us know if you find better parking locations nearby.

And the last Monday of the month in The Outlook, 76-78 Kings Rd
Reading, Berkshire RG1 3BJ.

The pub is on the King's Road, on the town centre side of the Kennet & Avon canal. On the opposite side you will find the Queen's Road multi-storey car park, accessible from the A329. Other parking options include The Oracle and the railway station. You can also park on the street right outside the pub if you are lucky.

In both cases, people sometimes start arriving from 7pm, it's busy by 8pm.

Dress Code & Behaviour

Although we do now book our regular area of the pub if we can, the pub staff are not aware of our inclinations. Please dress in street/casual clothes and be discreet.

Locating Us

We meet on the second Thursday of the month in The Purple Turtle (downstairs) or on the last Monday of the month in The Outlook (usually the front area on the ground floor, turn right when you come in the door). People sometimes start arriving from 7pm, it's busy by 8pm.

If you need to contact an organiser (such as if you can't find the group in the pub) you can call on 07487 401011 or 07561 360041.

Look out for the munch mascots if you don't recognise any faces.

Under New Management

The munch has now been officially handed over, into the loving care of Mel and Rob, who will be keeping everyone informed of dates etc. Please, please keep on attending; it would be such a shame if it fizzled out after a year!

It's been fun.

Tuesday 11 April 2006

April Munch

The next munch will be on Thursday 20th April, from around 8.00pm, at The Outlook in Reading. We will be in the no smoking area at the front of the pub. This may well be my last munch for a while, but thanks to some volunteers, the event will continue!

Directions and Parking
The link includes a map showing that the pub is on the Kings Road, on the town centre side of the bridge. On the other side of the bridge you will find the Queens Road car park, accessible from the A329. You can also park right outside the pub if you are lucky.

Dress Code and Behaviour
Since they would not allow us to book, the pub is not currently aware of our meeting or our inclinations, so please dress in street clothes and be discreet.

Locating us
We plan to sit at the front of the pub, round the corner to your right as you come in through the door. This is the non-smoking section, however a satellite smoking group formed itself last month, and allowed for further mingling.

Look for the small but colourful toy cat - that's us.

Tuesday 28 March 2006

Free to good home

As the more observant among you will have noticed, this kitty is about to produce a litter, so the April munch (on Thursday 20th) will almost certainly be my last for a while. So I'm looking for someone to take over as organiser, and to adopt our mascot cat. The cat itself takes very little maintenance, and comes with its own leash. The munch isn't exactly hard work either; you just have to update the website occasionally, send out an email reminder, and add us to Informed Consent once a month. Oh, and turn up, but you'll probably want to do that anyway.

If anyone is interested, please email me or leave a comment, or just speak to me at the next munch. I would hate it to fade away after just over a year, because there really does seem to be a need for a Reading munch. We do get at least 15 people every time, and we're friendly and non-cliquey, and I think it's worth continuing.

Wednesday 8 March 2006

March Munch

February was a little quiet, but still we had a couple of new faces and a handful of regulars. As always, we're the uncliqueyest of munches, so don't be afraid to come and join us!

The next munch will be on Thursday 16th March, from around 8.00pm, at The Outlook in Reading. After some discussion, we have decided that we prefer the no smoking area at the front of the pub, which we usually manage to take over.

Directions and Parking

Reading Munch's First Birthday

Our first munch took place in February 2005, with five people. Most months we now get a crowd of around 20 people, always including a few new faces. The munch is always held on the 16th of the month except if we really can't manage it, so why not come along and meet us?

February's munch will be on Thursday 16th February, from around 8.00pm, at The Outlook in Reading. After some discussion, we have decided that we prefer the no smoking area at the front of the pub, which we usually manage to take over.
